Chicken Bone Broth
It’s time for part two in this three-part series.
We made Homemade Herbed Noodles for our soup last week. Now we need a place to throw them so they can work their magic.
Y’all, homemade bone broth is honestly super easy to make. I let all the ingredients cook in the instant pot for three hours to create more love for our soup recipe.
Homemade noodles, homemade broth, and next week homemade chicken noodle soup. YUM!
I love this.
Jackson from Guard My Heart is not done with his soup adventure just yet. When he makes soup, he goes all out. That basically means homemade broth is being prepared at his house. He likes his recipes to be full of homemade love in every spoonful.
Anika is not complaining. Top on her list of favorites is soup. She loves way too many soup recipes to list them all here, but her favorite recipes are the ones created by her sexy firefighter.
They’re perfect for each other. Am I, right?
This recipe does not have to be prepared in the instant pot. You could easily cook everything in a stock pot on the stove. The big difference between the two are the cooking times. You’ll cook the broth for several hours on the stove.
Full disclosure, I loved making the homemade broth. We cook enough whole chickens on the grill, so it’s easy for me to prepare.
Personally, I think the flavors in your soup recipes are so much better when everything is homemade. So so good!
Have fun making some broth for your delicious pot of soup!

Instant Pot Homemade Chicken Bone Broth
Recipe by Terra Kelly
Prep: 10-15 minutes
Cook: 3 hours
Makes: 8-10 cups
Ingredients
Chicken bones and pieces from whole chicken
2 large carrots, roughly chopped
3 large stalks celery, roughly chopped
2 small onions, roughly chopped
2 bay leaf
1 tsp salt
1 tsp peppercorns
1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
Filtered water (enough to fill to the fill line in well of instant pot)
Directions
Important Note: Roasting your chicken- this part you can do it in a stockpot on the stove, in a roasting pan in the oven, in your instant pot, or on the grill for extra flavor in your soup.
Once the chicken is cooked, you will remove the meat from bone and place the chicken in a bowl or airtight container.
Add the bones to the instant pot, it’s also best to keep all connective tissue (that includes knuckles, neck, back, and wings), plus any thick pieces of skin. Next, add carrots, celery, onions, bay leaf, salt, peppercorns, and apple cider vinegar. Add filtered water all the way up to your fill line in the instant pot and stir the ingredients. Lock the lid and set it to seal. Use slow cook setting and cook for 3 hours.
Once the broth is cooked, use a sieve and pour the broth into a container. Let it cool. You can seal the broth and refrigerate it up to a week or freeze it up to 1-2 months. Or you can immediately add it to your soup pot to make your soup.
Note: On my instant pot, the slow cook setting will cook the ingredients for 4 hours. You usually only cook chicken bones for 3 hours, so I stopped it early.
